In response to your question, one of our local community hospitals uses
grated carrot on sore and raw bleeding nipples with apparently good results.
I have seen bleeding nipples dry up very quickly (within hours) with this
treatment. They keep a dish of fresh grated carrot in the fridge and line
the breast pad with it and apply it. There is no research to support this
activity and I have suggested they do their own but I will have to push them
a little harder. Beta carotene is a precursor to vitamin A a known tissue
healer so there may well be some scientific fondation to the practice.
Please note though it does stain and some women do not like this.
