Hi Sarah
while Jim McKenna talks about this topic, as far as I know the only study so far ever published directly comparing bf and never bf mother-baby bedsharing is ours, which was a small and preliminary study. Jim's very well known study included only bf dyads. We saw much variability in bedsharing behaviour among our small never breastfed group. We have subsequently videoed many more breastfeeding moms and babies who have all been amazingly consistent, but not yet studied any additional non-bf dyads.

Lane Volpe observed teen and adult mom-baby sleep behaviour for her PhD thesis, some of which is published as case studies in a 2012 paper on which she is first author in Social Science and Medicine. There were a mix of bf and non-bf dyads some of whom bedshared in this study, but they were not compared in that way. Likewise Sally Baddock's published video work from NZ I think also includes both bf and nonbf dyads, but again were not analysed to make this comparison as far as I recall.

Regards
Helen
