The toxin study was done on only 20 women by an environmental group wishing
to alert people of the levels of toxic flame retardants in our environment. The
study concludes that the benefits of breastfeeding far outweigh the risks of
flame retardants in breastmilk. After hearing an alarming soundbite about the
"hazards of breastfeeding" I waited to hear how the story was presented on
CNN. The entire segment (short) bashed the study saying it was too small and
still did not present any true hazards (the sound bite was more damaging). In
fact, the female newscaster reporting the story was pregnant. Her co anchors asked
if she intended to breastfeed after reading the study, She adamantly replied,
"Absolutely. Breastmilk is best." I missed the GMA segment but I am not at
all surprised by the spin there. Heather Dana
