But let's not forget our own responsibilities.

The editor, Workgroup and staff were TWICE shabbily treated-- (1) first,
by the AAP marketing staff and AAP Executive Group who agreed to the
book purchase by Ross in the first place, and then, (2) second, by many
members of their own breastfeeding community, who attacked them by
association, without attempting first to ascertain the facts. These
attacks, whether direct--addressed by mail or email, directly to the
falsely accused, or indirect--by flying rumors, hearsay, and conjecture,
behind their backs, were undeserved and painful.

As Dr. Gartner requests, the AAP owes Dr. Meek an apology.
Well, I suspect there are also people on this list who owe Dr. Meek an
apology, owe Betty Crase an apology, and owe Dr. Gartner himself an
apology.

I hope this incident will serve as a lesson, not only in issues of
marketing and commercial/corporate ethics for the big bad wolves at the
AAP, but also in civility and personal ethics for those of us already
anointed by the goodness, godliness, and divine motherhood that we have
on our side.
