A brief update on the baby with birth injuries...

I saw him to day and they are still using the SNS and doing test weights.
Mom estimates baby is getting 30-50% of the milk directly from the breast
and the rest from the SNS.

She describes him as a lazy nurser, much like his brother before him. His
brother ended up in hospital at 2+ weeks due to poor weight gain and mom
used SNS for months. This time, due to the birth problems, we anticipated
the poor suck/poor transfer of milk and started the SNS sooner which is
preserving the milk supply (along with pumping). Last time, mom's supply
had irretrievably crashed and could not be brought back.

Baby is up 6 ounces since Monday and looks much less yellow although the
last bili count is yet to come back. If it is unchanged or higher he will
be sent for some liver tests.

I suggested that due to the possibly weak suck that she look into some
chiropractic assistance. His latch looked a little shallow today, and his
lips were curled in, which he was not doing last time I saw him, so I think
she needs to work on that some as well.
