Hi all,

A question from hot Madrid. Yes, a ped has called me to tell me that a mother has green breastmilk. She gave birth to a healthy term baby 48
hours ago. She happened to see a drop of her breastmilk and called the nurses, very scared, beacuse it was green. The nurses had her pump
and called the ped. She (the ped) tells me over the phone that the milk is a dark greenish color that reminds her of meconium. Green from both
breasts, so it is not a local cyst.
The mother is healthy and has been eating hospital food for two days.

I have done a search and confirmed what I remembered, that some natural or synthetic dye is probably causing it. Lawrence and Lawrence list
Gatorade, kelp and seaweed specially in pills, and other vitamins from health food stores. Apparently this mom takes none of that. Oops, I m now
thinking I didnīt ask the ped if mom s urine was also green.

Anyway, any other things you think I can ask her about?
And, more importantly, can the baby drink the milk?

Thanks,

Kika Baeza
family doc in Spain
