On the question of teaching doctors early - I spent a couple of days the
week before last at Dr. Jack's breastfeeding clinics at two Toronto
hospitals. Both days Jack had graduate medical students (residents) spending
the day with him to observe. He takes time between appointments with mothers
and babies to explain to the residents the principles of breastfeeding and
why he has given the advice he gives. I think spending time at a good
breastfeeding clinic should be a requirement for every medical student. And
I wish we could clone Jack.
