I have heard of using the butt end of an electric toothbrush, and I did suggest it while it was still inspissated milk, before it was an abscess (I haven't asked her whether she tried it). However, I'm wondering, once it has progressed to an abscess, is it still safe and effective? Will the vibration help break down the fibrous encapsulation of the abscess, or at that point is it too late?

Also, many women have another personal handheld health device which vibrates--has anyone looked at relative efficacy of the toothbrush vs. the vibrator? It would be an interesting study.
