Dear Ellen,
The following website has info on Aclovate:

http://us.gsk.com/products/assets/us_aclovate.pdf

Basically it is a topical corticosteroid. Hale does not list it in the 2002
edition, but... he does list systemic corticosteroids in general and states
that in small doses, most steroids are not contraindicated. Prednisolone
(an oral corticosteroid) is approved by the AAP for use in breastfeeding
mothers. I can't believe that a topical corticosteroid would result in
higher doses than an oral, but I don't really know.

You might do well to go to Tom Hale's website and ask him on the discussion
board.

Hope this helps,

Re: overdiagnosing yeast... I've seen a 2 cases in the last month in which
the docs had prescribed yeast meds for both mom and baby, but when I saw
them and they corrected the latch, the nipple pain went away. Thankfully,
the moms hadn't actually started the meds. The docs (both OB and Ped)
prescribed them over the phone, because mom asked for it!

<snip>
dermatologist who said that it was just irritation and prescribed Aclovate
ointment. She told her to pump and dump during the 2 wk treatment and to
wait for 2 days after end of treatment to begin giving the baby pumped milk.

Any info on this ointment would be appreciated.

Ellen
