A friend wrote to me: <<Congratulations Sam on your National news article,
and being such a valuable resource and "pain in the ass" to the formula
companies!!! >>

Yes, I am a pain in the butt, but the reason is "for the babies."

This report does not attack the formula companies, it is working to protect
the babies.

The nursery nurses mentioned earlier today are missing the point, as well.
Their job is to support the mother and baby. It is not the mother's job to
make it easier for the nurses. And it is easier to quantify how many ounces,
how many times when you are expected to chart on a non-forgiving computer.
There is no box for "asleep at breast with sucking motions" or "nuzzling
breast with licking motions" or anything else that we would quantify as
significant. It is only x minutes, x number of times. (how could that stand
up in court for a baby who is not transferring milk well?)

The measure of a society is how well it treats its most vulnerable members.

Best wishes,
Sam
