Coach Smith here. Leaving a structure in place that is inhibiting good range
of motion is not in the best interest of the baby.  Since frenotomy is such a
simple procedure if done by someone trained, the risk/benefit ration is

Some people confuse frenotomy with frenctomy. Frenotomy is a simple incision
(like in episiotomy), which is the appropriate treatment in the vast majority
of cases. Frenectomy is removal of tissue (as in tonsillectomy or
hysterectomy). Rarely is removal of tissue necessary or appropriate - if so,
then it's a more complicated surgical procedure.
