Echinacea is usually paired with goldenseal and sold in capsusle form.
Maybe this is what was meant - goldenseal not golden root. According to
Sheila Humphrey in the Nursing Mother's Herbal, goldenseal has anti-
infective properties which are due mainly to the compound berberine (also
found in Oregon grape mentioned in another post)which acts to stabilize
mucous membranes it comes in contact with, thus drying up the nose when
taken for the common cold.  She does go on to say that goldenseal is not
absorbed thru the GI tract and therefore should not have the unwanted side
effect of also drying up mom's milk.
