When I get this question, I also tell the parents that simply having IBCLC after a provider 'a name does not mean they are a practicing IBCLC. I'm a CNM, not practicing but I my license is current so I use this in my credentials.  But a friend who is a practicing CNM (and is in network) was and is still IBCLC but is not practicing lactation - insurance sees that IBCLC and assumes they are an LC.
