Dear all,

After some studying and searching and making phone calls today, I have been able to get in touch with the radiologist.
She was kind enough to give the mother (when she phoned) an appointment for tomorrow morning already!
The lady radiologist will go on holiday, but decided to see this mom before she leaves. That's great, huh?! :-))
After the ultrasound we will decide how to progress, although I have already made several suggestions.
Mom is really happy, that her problems are now thoroughly investigated.
I will go to the hospital, too, tomorrow, and hope to learn important things.
Mom welcomes me to the appointment and I'm very interested to hear the radiologist's views.
Culturing the nipple is surely something we keep in mind.
Mom will probably start using lecithine and vitamine C (for general health), maybe some probiotics for gut health (after the ab's) and hot packs for better flow during feedings.
We will consider several other things and I have good hopes that we will gain improvement.
Thank you for your thoughts!

Bye,

Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands

  Subject: repeating mastitis

I would definitely recommend culture the nipple area that is a problem area, even if small. She could also have the milk cultured, a clean catch specimen.
I am thinking she has maybe a blocked duct behind a nipple pore that is occluded or infected and possibly an abscess is in there.
I think an ultrasound is definitely in order.
She could possibly have inflammatory breast cancer, as one possibility not to be taken lightly for repeated bouts of mastitis.
Have you or another LC seen her and her breast in person.?
