I have been reading the posts on Lactnet about 2012 requirements for IBCLC exam. I am a nurse, I have worked in Lactation for seven years now. I need to refer to other sources such as counselors, doctors, teachers, LLL, dieticians, I think all of these credentials are necessary to truly help a mom/baby dyad. I guess I am trying to say that the nurse part of me sees one picture but I need the help of many to truly do a good job. I am still learning. I really don't think that having an Rn degree is going to make you a better IBCLC, it is the medical train wrecks we are always needing to fix. I am always trying to bring good information to our staff so we can do a better job. I can't prevent all of the medical interventions but I can try to right all the wrongs by keeping mom and baby together and promote and follow up after their hospital stay to support breastfeeding. 
What can we do as IBCLC's to change this?
