The mom started the domperidone and was able to immediately (48h) go
from 4 oz supplement 6x per day to 2.5oz supplement. She had been using
an SNS but when she recognized the probable long term issue, she
switched to a Lact-Aid (which she's finding to be much more
comfortable). Interestingly, the herbs initially helped, but that level
of supply wasn't maintained. Hard to say if that's b/c the baby still
wasn't removing milk so effectively or if the herbs just didn't maintain
the level of production. The combination though, is really working for
her.

Her pediatrician really gave the baby a close, thorough examination.
Both he and mom feel that the baby is really healthy, but that he may
have a borderline laryngomalacia issue. Borderline would be the key
word. Mom is not at all interested in seeking out further medical
opinions at this point. The ped felt that if he did have it, it would
be so mild that no treatment would be initiated - and that she'd simply
keep doing what she's doing anyway. He's taking the position that the
baby will grow out of it. From what I read in the archives, that seems
a reasonable position. Baby is meeting all developmental milestones, is
growing in length, weight and head circumference with the supplements
and is very very happy. He's having breastmilk bowel movements now and
is no longer 'constipated' from the formula.

Mom's going to work on, over time, decreasing the amount of supplement
but she also recognizes that it may not work since her supply was very
compromised for a long time (11 weeks) before it was addressed. If
she does have to continue supplementing, she may end up starting solids
early (5 mos or so -per Jack's book) and use that as the additional food
instead of the formula.

She's not taking milk from the friend who lived in England during the
MCD outbreak, but is using milk from several other close friends.

Jack, thanks for your book. It was your information via your book
that turned this around. Without Lactnet, I wouldn't have known about
you. Thanks everyone for the input wrt laryngomalacia, heart
problems. All of the info was very helpful to mom in the decision
making process.
