Our Director has decided Lactation is costing too much money, having one full
time, 2 part time and one per diem LC AND double pump kits is just not in our
budget any longer.  We have gone to disposable kits except, it was our
understanding, that the NICU moms can have the good kit, so they can boil it,
etc.  Well, now we are told we are killing the budget still using too many.
They are now locked in her office for her to decide when they can be given
out.  So far for a 30, 31, 33, and 34 weeker we have been turned down.  So
why on earth are there even any to be locked up at all?  I am sure that is
the next step.  We are a level II unit.  I tried to explain better in an
email the reason for babies under 34 weeks and the need for helping to
prevent infection, boiling daily, etc.  I have not had a response back and
again today I requested for a 30 weeker and when I left the mom still did not
have the good kit and I did not have a response back.  Has anyone else gone
through this?  I suggested no more pacifiers to be given out at all (except
in NICU) and why are we providing so many disposable panties?  No response
back yet on those cost cutting ideas either.
