Since I am on-line again, and since several people have written to ask "who
are you" -- I thought a brief re-intro would be in order, to answer the
usual questions.

Chanita Stillerman, San Francisco

IBCLC since '96

Involvement in assisting lactation and related issues x 26 years

Breastfed my son 18 months -- 27 years ago. He was a premie -- born at 30
weeks at 3 lb 4, went to breast directly the first time at 10 days (meantime
I pumped q 1-1/2 - 2 hours and he was gavaged, then artificially nippled
before coming to me). He went home on day 17, weighing in at a grand 4 lb
6.

Besides my son, I have had foster children and then helped raise two
step-daughters for the last five years.
I am recently an honorary grandmom -- my "daughter" not BF, but is
harvesting her milk (she didn't like BF).

RN in tertiary care LDRP x 23 years for a unit that has total rooming in, no
nursery other than ICN. The hospital had a night nursery when I first
arrived, but that was already being phased out. We also did infant recovery
and mom recovery separately at the time -- but changed over to joint
recovery at least 15 years ago. We have always been supportive of
breastfeeding, but were not as pro-active as we might have been until the
last ten years -- and getting more so.

I am not named after the kibbutz Chanita, in Israel. My parents did not
know of its existence when they combined Channa and Eta to make my name.
But if they had, they would still have given me my name.

My other life (non-BF related) includes dancing, drumming and costuming with
samba schools here in San Francisco (participating in SF Carnaval and other
Bay Area events, as well as carnavals in Rio and Salvador).

I'm also an avid mystery reader.

Chanita,
San Francisco
