Stacey: We follow the guidelines established by the Human Milk Banking
Association of North America. Their publication entitled
"Recommendations For Collection, Storage, And Handling Of A Mother's
Milk For Her Own Infant In The Hospital Setting" can be purchased by
contacting them at PO Box 370464, West Hartford, CT 06137-0464 USA.
Phone (203) 232-8809, FAX (203) 232-0113. Sorry, I don't know the
e-mail address. I think you will find the guidelines to be different than
some of the storage procedures you are currently seeing in your facility.
We supply our moms with sterile specimen cups that have a tight fitting
lid and find this works quite well.
