Subject: New Addition to the Diagnostic Artifacts in Maryland Website

This spring saw an important new addition to JPPM’s Diagnostic Artifacts in Maryland website – Projectile Points (http://www.jefpat.org/diagnostic/Maryland_Projectile_Points/index-projectilepoints.html). The website allows you to search for a particular point by its shape or time period, provides detailed information about the age, shape, and distribution of each point type, and includes lots of photos of points from our collections. So far the feedback from the archaeological community has been positive, and the website served as the focus of this year’s Maryland Archeology Month.

While the Projectile Point page is a huge addition to the website, we are also pleased to report several other new sections to Diagnostic Artifacts of Maryland (http://www.jefpat.org/diagnostic/index.htm). Canton Porcelain and Victorian Majolica have been added to the Less Commonly Found Wares section of Post-Colonial Ceramics and Marbles have been added to the Small Finds section. As always, work continues at the lab to create new categories and update previously posted ones. Stay tuned for a new Small Finds category—Bone Handled Toothbrushes—and for revisions and new photos in the Colonial Ceramics section on Tin-Glazed Earthenware.
