Hmm. It was forty-five years ago, so I can only guess. There was a small
living area with the pot belly stove, a larger dining room, and a small kitchen.
The single bedroom and six bed niches were sealed off by doors. I would
estimate the heating area to be about 950 square feet. I recall the heat radiated
through the niche bedroom doors. But, it did not escape through to the attic or
down through the basement (probably due to insulation).

This house was a high pitched Craftsman on a fieldstone half foundation (half
dug in on the uphill side). The elevation is about 4500 feet above sea level
and it is on a ridge facing the desert to the east. I can assure you, it gets
downright cold up there during winter. People tell me those houses now have
indoor plumbing, but I would bet they breached the insulation to accomplish that
task.
