My home in Eureka Montan was about 1,000 square feet. A moderately
insulated home (by Montana standards) built in the Craftsman style back in
late 1920s or 30's. There were two locations in Oregon. The first was an
old factory converted into half home and half candle factory when I was
there in the fall of 1970 (near Grants Pass) government suppliled housing.
The living quarters were heated 24 hours a day and the candle factory area
only about 9-10 hours a day. The guy had lived there for 5 winters and his
estimate was for 4 cords for a mild winter and 6 for a heavier winter. Wood
use dropped way down starting in early April. The second was USADA Forest
Service houses (for permanent employees with familys) in Chemult on the
east edge of the Cascades and on the divide between the Deschutes river
runing downhill to the north and the Klamath River running downhill to the
south. People would buy there own wood at $35.00 pert cord (cut,
delivered, and stacked) to fill up their covered woodsheds. Each house was
a different size and each family like a different level of warmth and I
don't have an estimate for these. In addition to the loop of houses, there
was another loop of house trailers for single permanent employees and then
bunk houses for temporary woods rats like yours truely.

:-)

For those that have provided information on my question, thank you.

Ron, do you have an estimate of the square footage for the cabin in the
Laguna Mountains?
Mike, do you know the square footage for the homes in Oregon and Eureka
Mt.?
