Most state historic preservation offices here in the east maintain a list
of contract archaeologists.  To get on these lists an individual or firm is
required to submit resumes documenting federal level compentency.  NCSHPO
can get you a list of state historic preservation contacts.
 
many archaeologists are not on the lists because they either work for a
listed firm or do not do contract work.
