Hampton, VA had salt ponds in the marsh north
of the city in the 17th and 18th centuries,
according to very limited info I barely
remember. I do know that none of the stuff
has been recorded. Also, Saltville in
Washington & Smyth Counties in SW VA had a
salt works based upon brine wells. This was I
think operational during the Rev War, and
certainly was operating thereafter until the
20th century. Saltville probably has a
website with background info. Check Swem's VA
Historical Index which has loads of citations
for production, places, etc.
