What a delight to hear again from the great Miss Shacklock.  We do of
course know that Debussy wrote 'La Mer' at Eastbourne so this particularly
Gallic view of the sea is looking towards rather than from France.

Brahms' famous visit to Blackpool was of course the inspiration for that
wonderful work for vocal quartet and piano duet whose swaying rhythms
are drawn directly from his ride on the 'Waltzes'.

There is of course a very successful American composer (maybe no more
to Miss Shacklock's taste than Philip Glass) who has taken his name from
a famous English resort. I refer of course to Michael Torquay.

This must surely be a very fruitful area for scholarly research.
