Dan Locklair's Choral, Chamber and Solo Organ Works
At Houston's St. Paul's United Methodist Church
World Premiere of Te Deum For Choir, Soloists and Organ To Be Featured
in Weekend-Long Celebration of His Music
Choral, Chamber and Solo Organ Works by American Composer Dan Locklair
will be presented and celebrated in performances on Friday, May 4 at 7:30
P.M. and as part of Sunday, May 6 morning services at St. Paul's United
Methodist Church, 5501 S. Main Street in Houston, Texas.
The Friday, May 4 performance will feature the World Premiere of the
composer's Te Deum for SSAATTBB choir, soloists and organ, performed by St.
Paul's Choir, conducted by Dan Locklair; with organist Robert Brewer, in
whose honor the piece was commissioned, and Mr. Locklair's Brief Mass for
SSAATTBB choir, a cappella, performed by the Choir, this time conducted by
Robert Brewer. Locklair's Reynolda Reflections for flute, cello and piano,
with Robert Brewer on piano; flutist Melissa Suhr, and cellist Steve Estes
will also be presented, along with the composer's Windows of Comfort -
Organbook II and Rubrics, both performed by organist Marilyn Keiser.
Sunday morning May 6 will feature the composer conducting his Te Deum at
the 8:25 AM and 9:45 AM services as well as performances of his Brief Mass
and O sacrum convivium motet at the 11 AM Eucharist service.
The music of internationally recognized composer Dan Locklair is influenced
by a wide variety of traditions, ranging from Medieval to modern music.
The works of Benjamin Britten and Aaron Copland have had a significant
impact on his writing. His music has been performed throughout Europe and
North America by many major orchestras, choral groups, chamber ensembles
and soloists. Several of these works have received major awards, including
the 1989 Barlow International Competition Award for changing perceptions
& Epitaph and the 1996 American Guild of Organists Composer of the Year
Award. He is currently Professor of Music and Composer -in-Residence at
Winston-Salem's Wake Forest University. Dan Locklair's website is located

The 80-member St. Paul's Choir has sung at ACDA Conventions, as well at
conventions of Chorus America. They have toured Europe and have made four
tours of England alone, including having been in residence at Westminster
Abbey, as well as at Yorkminster Cathedral. In 1999 they toured Germany
and performed in Bach's church, Thomaskirche in Leipzig, where they
presented Mr. Locklair's Brief Mass. They have also sung with the Houston
Ballet. Their repertoire ranges from Renaissance to music of our own time.
This Summer they will perform at Washington's National Cathedral and St.
Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, also performing the composer's Brief Mass.
The Choir's director, Robert Brewer, is an extraordinary musician. In
addition to his work at St. Paul's he has been Director of the Houston
Masterworks Chorus, Artistic Director of the Concert Chorale of Houston and
the St. Paul's Chamber Music Society, as well as Guest Conductor of the
Houston Bach Choir. He is also a superb organist and chamber musician.
