And you ain't alone.  Unless the original poster has mistaken another
commentator for dear ol' Franz, I fear this may be a case of someone
trying to "stir the pot", as 'twere.  It may be presumptuous of me, but
two postings filled with unsubstantiated claims that are bound to raise
the dander of (almost) any self-respecting CM listener seem mightily
suspicious.

As far as I know, Schubert's feelings toward the older man fell into
the hero-worship category.  Schubert could never work up the courage
to visit Beethoven in person -- either that or he was never presented
the opportunity -- and by the time B.  got to see some of Schubert's
manuscripts he was already bed-ridden.  Charles Rosen wrote in one of his
books that a few works by Schubert are modeled on corresponding ones in
Beethoven's oeuvre; in many cases, however, he equalled or bettered the
master's achievements.

Anyway, if anyone thought Beethoven was "overrated", it certainly
wasn't Schubert.
