Wes Crone has been sparring a little with Deryk Barker and David Runnion
concerning the preeminence of the concert hall for concentrated listening
of organized sounds. When I hear the concert hall is "best" theme, I sort
of feel that I'm listening to folks from a distant galaxy. How a giant
hall loaded with people and uncomfortable seating facilities can be "ideal"
is beyond my comprehension. A concert hall is one of the least likely
spots where I am going to concentrate on the music.

For maximum concentration of listening, I need two conditions to exist:

1. I must be alone.

2. My mind must be clear of any other thoughts and life events.

I also take exception to the premise that only "organized" sounds
constitute music. To me, by definition, natural sounds are not organized
sounds. Organizing sound requires effort, natural sound does not. Beyond
that, even sounds which are not natural can be music to a particular
person. Who am I to tell a person who hears music in the revving up of a
motor engine that he/she is hearing no such thing? I consider music to be
whatever a person feels it is. Once again, it's all subjective.
