The composer who provided the modern music for the Baryshnikov tribute
was Lou Harrison. I believe the piece is called "Grand Duo." Harrison was
a student of Henry Cowell and is now 83. He moved to the West Coast years
ago and considers himself a Pacific Rim composer. He is known for his use
of Gamelan instruments often in combination with traditional "western"
orchestral instruments. The choreographer who paid tribute to Baryshnikov,
Mark Morris, has used Harrison's music before - most notably a composition
"Rhymes With Silver" performed by Yo Yo Ma in 1995.
