Hello All,
From the American Bee journal article in the February 2009 issue pg.150.
"Keeping South Dakota Bees at the Rye Honey Farm" by Cecil Hicks. Cecil has
perhaps done a higher number of bee farm articles than any other author.

Quote the article
" Dale is a board member of the South Dakota Farm bureau and for the past
four years has been on the Bureaus national Honey & Agriculture Committee
that helps write policy.'

"Dale Rye is also past president and treasurer of the South Dakota
beekeepers association & currently on the executive board"

Bob Harrison comment:
The above are the types of beekeepers I get my information from. Want to
contact Dale Randy? Happy to arrange?

Dale explains about Bayer Crop Science and their current problems which are
not news to most on this list so will move on.

Moving on from the article:

" The Collation Against Bayer alleges that the start of sales of
imidacloprid & clothianidin coincided with the occurrence of large scale bee
deaths in many European & American countries"

"Dale is also keeping close tabs on an August 2008 lawsuit filed by the
Natural Resources Defense Council ( NRDC) against the EPA. As part of the
freedom of information Act lawyers for the NRDC
are seeking agency records concerning toxicity of certain pesticides to
bees. In 2003 , EPA granted a registration to a new pesticide (clothianidin)
manufactured by Bayer under the condition Bayer submit studies about its
products impact on bees. To date, NRDC claims that the EPA has failed to
disclose the results of those studies"

Bob Harrison comment:
Maybe David Fischer will explain to Randy why beekeepers have to sue to see
certain Bayer studies? The rumor is Bayer never provided the studies! Can
you get Dale, Stan, Gene, David H. and myself a look at those Bayer studies
the EPA is supposed to have?

Dales opinion:
"Dale had some huge losses this year (2008 with 2000 hives) and had to buy
hundreds of replacement bees & queens. When all is said and done , Dale
suspects most of his losses , as well as many of those that are listed as
CCD causes in the bee industry, will eventually be traced to pesticides"

Sincerely,
Bob Harrison
