What was particularly galling in that case was that the judge and lawyers refused to accept the testimony of the beekeepers or even the bee inspector as to what had happened, relying instead on "experts" who weren't even there.....such as Roger Morse, whose testimony was that since organophosphates applied appropriately to oranges didn't kill bees in Florida, aerial spraying of DDT done appropriately in NYS would be unlikely to harm bees in NY. This was considered valid evidence for the state! One of the plaintiffs in that case was my grandfather. He and his brother and other fellow beekeepers lost many hundreds of hives. There were initially some 30 beekeepers involved in that lawsuit, but many had to drop out due to the cost of making the complaint against the state of New York (which, unlike most beekeepers, has very deep pockets).
