I have never seen any proof that the so-called ferals are anything more 
than swarms recently escaped from managed hives. 

 

I know of more 'feral' colonies within a few miles of where I'm sat than managed colonies. I know of one kitchen ceiling that has had bees above it continuously for over 20 years.  I know of no hives within a couple of miles of it.
