I was watching Oprah today and it dawned on me as I was sitting there what a
great forum that would be for the concerns we have on the empowerment rather
than the disempowerment of women during childbirth and subsequent child
rearing and the social acceptance of attachment parenting/co -sleeping. I
emailed Oprah aksing her to consider a show with these topics which guests
should include Dr.Christiane Northrup, Dr. William Sears and Kathy Dettwyler.
I am very excited that this may come to fruitition as Oprah often does
segments on women empowerment/family issues and she has a wide audience. On
the woman taking Micronor and her perceived low supply. Last night I assisted
two babes to latch and the Mom's milk had already come in, their breasts were
quite full, although when I asked them they both did not think they had much
milk. These babes had not been latching well before. Both babes within 2 mins
of latching were gulping not swallowing but gulping milk. Both Mom's were
shocked when I pointed out the gulping and were convinced after that of
proper latch and their milk supply. Too bad so many women rely on
technology(pumps) and not their bodies/instincts to tell them what is right
in front of them, Lisa Mooney RN BSN IBCLC
