Hello to all!I received a call from a pregnant Mom yesterday about Prozac
and I'm looking to all of you wise ones for some info to help her. I did
search the archives and i found the info on the Nov. '99 Pediatrics study,
which i will be sending to her to share with her with her Dr.. She is
pregnant with her 2nd child, due in late April, and has a 16 month old.
After her first child was born she breastfed, but suffered severe PPD and
was put and Prozac and told to wean, which she did. She said that she was so
depressed that she couldn't even think about nursing. She was also diagnosed
with Obsessive/compulsive disorder. She is currently on 60 mg. a day of
Prozac and wants to know if she can nurse her newborn while taking this
ammount. i read in the archives that Dr. Hale did not think that it was a
good idea when the dose is that high. She also asked me if i thought Zoloft
was a better idea. It seems from looking at the archives that it may be. but
i don't know if it would be the best drug for her situation. Her Dr. is
willing to consider Prozac or other drugs if he has study-based evidence
that it is Ok. This Mom really wants to nurse, and it seems that she has
been through so much already! I also thought that it would be a lot less
stressful to nurse a newborn when you have a 16 month old than to have to be
preparing formula, but obviously, we all want to do what is best medically
for this Mom and newborn baby. Thanks so much for any info you can provide.I
continue to find Lactnet extremely helpful and informative!
