Re: the "mature professional woman having her first baby"--Have to confess it
was all I could do not to start laughing hysterically when arriving for an
early OB discharge home visits and the mom went to the file cabinet for the
baby's file folder so I could review. (Keep in mind they'd only been home one
night in most cases!) I don't want to generalize as not all did it certainly,
but the only women who created such files--and sometimes copious notes--on
their newborns fit in this category. They also were more likely to be
concerned about being "perfect." Of course, it presented a wonderful
opportunity for discussing enjoying the baby, and I can't think of one who
hadn't seemed able to "let it go" when we made follow-up calls.
BTW, for those in this category, don't you resent that AMA (advanced maternal
age) on your charts when you may be youngsters barely in your mid-30s? (I'd
resent it!)
