I used to get so many calls from mothers whose Dr was questioning their
bf babies lack of weight gain that I kept her baby book on my desk, in
this it shows that she weighed 7lbs1oz at birth, and 18.5 lbs at 1 year,
not the triple the birth wt that was so prevalent 25 years ago! And at
2 1/2 yrs she only weighed 26 lbs. (Currently she is in the USAF and a
size 10, but was on their weight program for a while!) The Mom needs to
find someone who is familiar with the wt gains of toddlers. I was
fortunate to find a PNP who was bf at the same time and she knew it was
ok. We know that there is nothing missing in breastmilk so that is
ridiculous. I would have the Mom check with LLL near her, and maybe
they can contact their professional liason.
