I often suggest to teen moms that they consider homeschooling
particularly, if they are not in their senior year(most teens don't want
to miss all the events that happen during the final year). But
homeschooling can really make breastfeeding alot easier. I had the
pleasure of meeting a 16 year old who used my suggestion and ended up
nursing for 18 months(she had of course the advantage of being a
breastfed baby herself and having a mother who supported her endeavor).
Homeschooling in this state--Florida, is not as difficult to do as in
some other states(homeschooled 2 of 3 children). So, if a teen mother
is feeling trapped by the school system, it might be just the suggestion
she needs(she need only do it as long as she needs to). Valerie W.
