I would also be concerned about overuse of the FTT diagnosis. However, what I am
seeing in my neck of the woods is LC referrals for R/O FTT. Guess what? They get
quick attention from insurance companies and are usually covered.
I hate to suggest that a pediatrician use this when he or she suspects simple
latch problems or not enough time at breast but....the fact is, if there is a
Failure to gain weight and we fix it with some simple measures then we are
ruling out FTT and saving the insurance company a bundle of money that would be
spent on a full work-up and a hospital admission.
