<< And one thing that made it hard
for me to integrate the birth picture into the rest of my life was this very
attitude that I encountered in so many people, beginning with my OB, that
birth was an experience best forgotten, not to be remembered and certainly
 not to be treasured. >>

Yesterday a nurse was discussing with a male OB doc the large number of
inductions & labor enhancements that are occurring today. She thought it was
a better experience to labor naturally as she had done with her 4 births. He
commented that women are tired of being pregnant, we don't want them to have
problems by going too far beyond their due dates & we don't let women labor
for 2 or 3 days any more. "Besides," he added, "women don't remember their
birth experience anyway." Well, we jumped on that one. I told him that my
children were born 28 & 30 yrs ago & I could tell him all about my labor &
birth experiences. I hope that he will remember in the future that birth is
an experience that is definitely remembered by women.
