There is a Norwegian word, "ammetaake" which means breastfeeding fog. Extraneous details don't stick, but you never hear of anyone forgetting their baby and having it blamed on this particular meteorologic phenomenon.
We joke about it, and we HCPs take its presence to be a positive sign that prolactin and oxytocin abound in the mother. I agree with Chris Mulford-- this isn't the time to negotiate peace accords or audit accounts. Maybe its purpose is to shut out just such things, or at least keep them at a distance so that fruitless worries will not adversely affect breastfeeding?
I distinguish between the chemically induced confusion which can follow birth and breastfeeding fog, and I have never had any trouble seeing the difference.
