I used both tools for my daughter and came out with the same figure -
5'5 1/2" to 5'6" She was 33" at age 2 (doubled is 66" or 5'6"). Her
father is 72" and I'm 64" which gives a mean of 68" less 2.5" = 5'5 1/2"
The problem with girls is that this may be the target height but then
menarche can affect the end result. At 14 with menarche at 12.5 years
and a Tanner of 4-5, my daughter is just a bit over 5'2" and it doesn't
look like she'll be much taller as her growth has slowed significantly
since her last (and final?) spurt. Both her father and I were "late
bloomers." I did not reach menarche until 15. Had I developed as early
as she did, I'd be < 5' tall.
I think these tools most likely work with the vast majority of kids but
would be very interested on the stats on girls in relation to the onset
of puberty.
