Friends:
I have just learned that the anticonvulsant Lamotrigine (Lamictal) may cause
severe, life-threatening rashes, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and
toxic epidermal necrolysis.
The reason for my concern is that while the risk in adults is 1 in 1000, the
risk in children is much, much higher, 1 in 50.
I would suggest that any mother ingesting this drug while breastfeeding her
infant, should probably change medication.
Regards
Tom Hale, Ph.D.
