In September, 97, we adopted two boys from Ethiopia. They have
certainly had periods of inadequate nourishment prior to life with us,
and had almost no body fat when they arrived. They showed amazing growth
during their first year here. Ny older son grew almost four inches and
gained nine pounds during the first nine months, overtaking his older
sister who looked quite a bit bigger than him when he arrived. In that
same period, my younger son grew three inches and gained eight pounds.
They have slowed up a bit, but continue to grow faster than our two
"home made" girls. We are delighted and impressed by the human body's
ability to make up for lost time and hope that they continue to flourish
here in the land of plenty.
