Like Jan B, I am suspicious of any pronouncements based on personal
experience of bf solutions unless the practitioner concerned has followed
up all the mothers and babies concerned for some time.
I say this because volunteer counsellors in the UK observe that mothers and
babies here are often 'manhandled' in hospital, in order to get the baby
to take the breast. Or they are given nipple shields. Or bottles. They may
be fully bf at the time of discharge, and the 'correct' box is ticked on
the discharge papers.
But we get calls from these mothers when they are back at home, and they
may have problems that emerge later....directly connnected with the
apparently 'successful' solution to their problem in hospital.
