I may totally off-base here, but my take on the original question was when to
start pumping when a mom is unable to bf--i.e., a baby in the NICU, still on
a vent, not being able to suckle yet.
At our hospital, our policy is that these moms should be instructed on
pumping, & ideally started with the pump, within 8 hours of delivery.
I've long since lost the original post, but just wondered if this was the
original intent of the question? I, too, lean toward the
"non-interventionist" bent when there's a baby to be put to breast, but when
the baby's not yet available, what do y'all do?
