Thanks for your responses. It's good to know I'm not the only one that the recommendation of separation, pump and dump x 24 hrs. makes little sense. Obviously, by the time a mom has had symptoms for a day or more, gone to the Dr., had a positive culture...baby has been well exposed to the bacteria, and then to deprive the antibody rich milk?! I used Lactfax to get the PCN info to the Dr. and sent a copy of RL's recommendations (although I hated to, 24 hrs. is a lot better than 1 week!!!), and my brochure. E-gad, just when I think that progress is being made... and then there is the story of the ER doc who told a mom to stop breastfeeding while on Tylenol with codeine.....:)
