I am sympathetic with this thread because, as you may remember, not long ago I
posted about a mom who clipped her own baby's frenum because there was no one in
her area to do it. The ENT wanted to put the baby under general anesthesia!

She used Anbesol to numb and a pair of cuticle scissors to clip. Honestly, I
don't think a mom should be placed in this position ever! Someone, some
professional organization, needs to own this problem. It could be the AAP, the
ADA (Dentists), the ENTs, the PNPs, CNMs, ...but someone.....please recognize
this as a problem and be willing to do a clipping! If no one else will...well,
I'm open to becoming somehow certified.

It is very easy to do and could be done with anyone with a small pair of
sterile scissors, a good light and a steady hand (actually any sort of
needleworker would have better fine scissor skills than some doctors!).
HOWEVER, b/c of legal issues I don't think the time is right for advocating
that it should be done by IBCLCs .... YET.

I am VERY particular about the use of my sewing tools and would prefer they
not be used for cutting ANYTHING other than cloth or natural threads, BUT
would be happy to buy another pair!
