It really sounds to me like the mom nursing the 19 month old and the 6 week
old is rather overwhelmed at having 2 children so young.  The suggestion of
having Grandma help out is a good one so she can have some "honeymoon"  time
with the new baby.

It seems though, that breastfeeding the older child is wonderful -
realistically, what does she expect the older child to be doing while she
attends to the new baby?  This child is only vying for what used to be all
her attention.  If she isn't going to get this attention from mom by
breastfeeding, she's going to find other methods - like pulling all the
books off the shelf, or upsetting what's on the table, or something even
more creative [this is after all a BREASTFED child :) ]

I encourage moms having a second or later child to set up a "nursing center"
at a special area on the couch where they can have not only their needs
{waterbottle, etc.} but also a sippy cup or water bottle for the older child
as well as a special pile of books to read for "nursing time".

Someone said it well - something about moms multiplying their love  instead
of dividing it...
