For what it's worth, I just wanted to make sure everyone realizes that
sucrose is ordinary table sugar, a disaccharide, whereas the 5% glucose
water available in feeding bottles is different. It is a monosaccharide,
and is, to my taste buds, simply awful tasting.
To make this breastfeeding related, I'm sure sucrose tastes much sweeter
than the lactose in breastmilk.
I would be curious to find if the references call for a sucrose solution,
or are they speaking of small amounts of the crystals, and how can they
tell that it has an actual analgesic effect, versus such a tempting taste
to the wee ones that it diverts their attention from the pain of the
circumcision?
