This is an interesting subject. I use self-disclosure often when dealing
with patients. Usually it has to do with feelings as in: "I remember when I
first breastfed my daughter and we had trouble getting the latch right.
Before a feeding I would worry about getting her latched on. Sometimes it
was a lot of trial and error..."
I don't tell that to all the new moms but the ones that are obviously
struggling with mastering latch-on, that hear that, breathe a big sigh of
relief, their shoulders relax, and say "that's what it's like for me."
some go on to say "I felt like I was the only one having trouble". Then
we talk about actual things to do to make latching easier.
